Department of Justice Training
(2016)

The Community Relations Service, under the Department of Justice, released a training video to be used at police departments across the country in order to better understand what it means to be transgender and how to act appropriately when faced with a trans victim or perpetrator. The video presents three examples of non-emergency situations and the best practices an officer should use when handling these types of scenarios. This was the first time the importance of police and gender-variant people’s relations have been recognized on a national level. Although, it was not mandated federally.
